This Beaufort County destination named one of the ‘best-kept secrets’ — in the world
Esquire picked its “13 Best Under-the-Radar Travel Destinations for 2018,” and one Beaufort County community made the cut.
Palmetto Bluff, is “one of the best-kept secrets in the South” as the Carolinas draw attention from travelers around the globe, Esquire said.
And the list is certainly a global one.
Other destinations included in the baker’s dozen are in Patagonia, Estonia, Laos, Bhutan, Portugal, Australia, Ireland, Uruguay, Chile, Malawi and Botswana.
The only other North American location listed is Talkeetna, Alaska, famous for its views of Denali and the northern lights.
“The Carolinas are undeniably having a moment,” says the report. “South Carolina’s Lowcountry is on the rise.”
Esquire recommends checking in to Montage Palmetto Bluff to experience “true Southern hospitality.”
It seems that some celebrities would agree with that plan.
Victoria’s Secret Angel Lindsay Ellingson posted photos from the high-end locale over the summer, just a few weeks after possible sightings of Justin Bieber there stirred up social media.
Grammy winner Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers served as best man at an October wedding at the community’s May River Chapel.
Tennis star John Isner and his longtime girlfriend tied the knot at Palmetto Bluff in early December.
Former White House press secretary and Fox News commentator Dana Perino owns a home in Palmetto Bluff.
And Jack Nicklaus visited in the spring to check out renovations to his Signature Golf Course.
Indeed, Esquire calls attention to that golf course in its listing, along with the Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club and available offshore fishing excursions.
