An “iconic” KFC sauce introduced in the 1990s is making a comeback.

The original honey BBQ sauce will be available for a limited time nationwide starting Oct. 6 at participating locations, the Kentucky-based fast-food restaurant chain said in a news release.

“After winning hearts with the return of fan-obsessed wedges and wings, the fried chicken icon is turning up the flavor once again by answering one of the most requested menu demands of all time,” the chain said.

The popular smoky and sweet sauce became a fan favorite when it hit the menu in the ’90s and early 2000s. At the time, it was only available on wings, a KFC spokesperson told McClatchy News.

Now, it’s been years since it has returned.

The restaurant chain said it’s the first time customers can enjoy the sauce on any fan favorite, like pieces of chicken or a chicken sandwich.

“KFC’s original honey BBQ wasn’t just a menu offering, it became a cultural touchstone that fans have been craving and asking us to bring back for years,” KFC President Catherine Tan-Gillespie said in the release.
