These four taco joints in Florida rank among best in US, Yelp says. Here’s why
Whether you’re a fan of tortillas filled with carne asada or chorizo, you might just find your favorite new taco joint in Florida.
That’s because the state is home to four of the nation’s best places to eat tacos, according to the review website Yelp.
Here’s where the restaurants ranked among the top 100 in the United States:
- Taqueria El Asador in Pensacola at No. 47
- Los Chiludos in Holmes Beach at No. 53
- The Pass Kitchen in Altamonte Springs at No. 90
- Antojitos Doña Chirris in Clearwater at No. 97
To create the list, Yelp studied restaurants that garnered multiple taco-related reviews. Then it “ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning ‘tacos.’”
“These highly rated taco spots may surprise you — they’re often a little off the radar,” the website wrote in its Oct. 2 report. “But whether it’s a well-known local favorite or a hidden gem, they all deliver cuisine praised by Yelp reviewers, with delicious taco varieties from different regions of Mexico.”
Why fans love the Florida taco joints
Of the Florida taco joints that landed on the list, people loved Taqueria El Asador the most. The restaurant in the state’s Panhandle got a humble start behind a gas station and remained a “local secret” for years, according to its website.
Now, Taqueria El Asador has gained national attention, with Yelp users raving about tacos bursting with flavor. Many enjoyed their food with the restaurant’s drinks, which fans said were tasty and refreshing.
Also ranking among the best places to eat tacos was Los Chiludos on Anna Maria Island, a roughly 55-mile drive southwest from Tampa. The restaurant launched after the owners of a Pennsylvania eatery said they visited the island on vacation and dreamed of relocating.
Los Chiludos fans have taken to Yelp to say they love the restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere and top-notch customer service. Several raved about the freshness of the fish tacos, “topped with red cabbage, mango salsa and a chipotle aioli,” according to an online menu.
Rounding out the list of fan-favorite taco joints were The Pass Kitchen near Orlando and Antojitos Doña Chirris in the Tampa Bay area. On both of the restaurant’s Yelp pages, the most popular dishes included birria tacos, traditionally made with slow-cooked meat.
Across the country, Yelp said the No. 1 taco joint was Birrieria Familia Castro, in the Los Angeles area. The website shared the winners ahead of National Taco Day, which falls on Oct. 7 this year.
