Beaufort County schools are canceling the first day of classes, originally planned for Wednesday, due to potential impacts of Tropical Storm Debby, the district announced Monday afternoon.
Officials will send an update on Wednesday containing their plans for school on Thursday, according to the email sent just after 2 p.m. Monday. All district facilities will be closed for the remainder of Monday, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday.
Remote learning will not take place on Wednesday because “device distribution is still taking place,” the district said. If classes are canceled further in the week, remote learning will not take place then as well.
“We understand that you need as much advanced notice as possible regarding any decisions so you can plan accordingly for your family’s needs,” the email read. “However, please know we don’t take the possibility of further postponing the start of the school year lightly as to avoid students having to utilize make-up days during the winter break.”
