A 17-year-old was fatally shot in Beaufort late Thursday. Police are investigating

A 17-year-old was fatally shot in Beaufort late Thursday night, according to a Beaufort Police Department news release.

At 11:55 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the area of Battery Creek Road and Mossy Oaks Road, where they found a man on the side of the road who had been shot in his midsection.

Dimitri Weaver, of Port Royal, was transported by EMS to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the release says.

At the time of his death, Weaver was enrolled in the Beaufort County School District’s Adult Education program, school district spokesperson Jim Foster said.

The investigation is active, and no arrests have been made.

Weaver’s death is the 14th homicide in Beaufort County this year, and the third in the Beaufort Police Department’s jurisdiction — one in each of the past three months.

Last year, Beaufort Police had one homicide.

On Oct. 9, Theresa Coker, 70, was found dead in her Polk Street home. Jermaine Lemonte Thurston, 42, of Seabrook, who’d previously done yard work for her, was charged with her death.

On Nov. 22, Ethan Bosworth, 20, was shot while sitting in his car on Waddell Road. Cameron Chan’ou Kim, 18, of Lady’s Island, was charged with his death.
