Pedestrian dies weeks after being injured in Jasper County hit-and-run incident

A pedestrian died in the hospital Friday after being struck by a vehicle and severely injured in a hit-and-run incident last month in Jasper County, according to S.C. Highway Patrol.

Around 11:36 p.m. on Nov. 22, a vehicle struck a pedestrian on Deerfield Road near Purrysburg Road, then left the scene, Highway Patrol spokesperson Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said.

The pedestrian was immediately taken to the hospital and remained there until their death, he said.

Officers still do not know who was driving the vehicle or its make and model, but they believe it has front-end damage on the headlights, hood and grille.

Anyone with information on the collision or vehicle of interest can call Highway Patrol at 843-953-6010 or 1-800-768-1506. Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-888-274-6372.

This story will be updated when more information, such as the identity of the pedestrian, becomes available.
