Is there a curfew and, if so, who does it apply to?

Yes.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office called for a curfew from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. for Saturday, Sunday and Monday for Beaufort County barrier islands that have been evacuated.

Those caught breaking curfew will be subject to questioning from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff P.J. Tanner said in a news briefing Sunday afternoon. The repercussions to breaking curfew include a warning, a misdemeanor charge and/or arrest.

The curfew was put in place to help prevent burglaries of unattended homes, Tanner said, and it gives deputies the opportunity to stop anyone out between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Businesses can stay open during the curfew, he said, but anyone out on the roads at that time would be in violation, so traveling from a restaurant .

Bluffton, Beaufort and other mainland areas have not been put under a curfew.
