Bluffton woman arrested in fatal hit-and-run that killed Bluffton man

A Bluffton woman has been charged in connection with the Nov. 21 hit-and-run death of a Bluffton man riding his bicycle on U.S. 278 near Burnt Church Road.

Shannon Marie Dapiran, 36, was charged on Friday by the S.C. Highway Patrol with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death, according to Lance Cpl. Matthew Southern of the patrol.

Dapiran has been taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where she awaits a bond hearing, Southern said.

The collision killed Kevin Thomson, 60, who died around 7:30 p.m. that day, according to Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott.

Thomson was found in a ditch on the westbound side of the highway in the area of Burnt Church Road around 8:45 a.m., according to Capt. Bob Bromage of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
