Here’s what we know about 2 injured Beaufort County deputies, unconscious man
Two deputies injured in a Seabrook incident Saturday night have returned to work, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Bob Bromage.
One deputy was punched in the head by a 24-year-old man, and the other deputy injured an ankle after deputies tried to restrain the man on Detour Road on Saturday, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release on Monday. The two deputies were treated and released from Beaufort Memorial Hospital on Saturday evening.
The 24-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released by local or state law enforcement, fell unconscious while deputies worked to restrain him, according to the release. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating this aspect of the incident. No further information was available Wednesday afternoon, spokesman Thom Berry said.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to the initial incident, in which the 24-year-old man was allegedly breaking items inside a relative’s home on Detour Road and was “out of control, injured, bleeding and in need of medical assistance,” according to a family member who called 911. Once restrained, the man was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
No charges had been filed against the man by Wednesday afternoon by the Sheriff’s Office, Bromage said.
No information on the man’s injuries or current condition were available from law enforcement on Wednesday.
