After filling his tank SC man used extra cash on lottery game. Now he can buy lots of gas
A Midlands man had some money left over after recently filling his gas tank and decided to spend it on a lottery ticket.
Now he can buy a lot more gas after winning a six-figure jackpot, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said Thursday in a news release.
The extra cash turned into a $300,000 jackpot, according to the release.
The man bought a Cash Bonanza game at the Anayar LLC, known locally as the One Stop, officials said. The gas station/convenience store is at 1480 Five Chop Road in Orangeburg.
The man’s name has not been released because South Carolina is one of eight states — along with Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
The winner said he’ll invest the newfound windfall for his retirement, but didn’t provide specifics on the investments or when he plans to retire.
“It’s taken a big burden off me,” he said in the release.
The odds of winning the top prize in the Cash Bonanza game are one-in-900,000, according to the release. This game is no longer available, officials said.
The convenience store received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed winning ticket, according to the release.
