Biker killed after riding improperly on Columbia road, Richland County Coroner says

A Columbia man was killed while riding a bicycle “improperly,” the Richland County Coroner’s Office said.

David Noble Norris, Jr. collided with a vehicle while riding a bike near the intersection of Bluff Road and Atlas Road last Friday, Coroner Gary Watts said in a news release. That is near the junction of Shop Road and Interstate 77, and about four miles from Williams-Brice Stadium, home of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks football team.

It was about 9 p.m. when the 22-year-old was riding “his bicycle improperly in the roadway (and) he was struck by a motor vehicle,” according to the release.

Information on what Norris was doing improperly was not available.

Norris was taken to a Richland County hospital, where he died Sunday morning, Watts said.

After performing an autopsy, the coroner determined Norris died of multiple trauma.

No other injuries were reported by the coroner’s office, which said there were three fatal wrecks in Richland County over the weekend.

Norris’ death is being investigated by the coroner’s office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
