Columbia woman killed in multi-vehicle crash, Richland County Coroner says
A Columbia woman was killed in a multi-vehicle collision, the Richland County Coroner’s Office said Monday.
The wreck occurred Sunday at about 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of River Drive and Gibson Street, Coroner Gary Watts said in a news release. That is near the Broad River bridge, after Broad River Road turns into River Drive.
Lila Patterson was a front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash, according to the release. The 77-year-old was taken to a Richland County hospital where she died just before 6 p.m., the coroner’s office reported.
After performing an autopsy, Watts determined Patterson’s cause of death was due to blunt force injuries to the torso.
No other injuries were reported by the coroner’s office, and information on the cause of the crash was not available.
There was no word on possible criminal charges, but the collision is being investigated by the coroner’s office and the Columbia Police Department.
