A man who died Sunday morning after he was run over in a Vista parking lot has been identified as a 24-year-old from Columbia.
Timothy Harkless Jr, 24, was “willfully lying down” in the parking lot when he was hit by a car, according to news releases from police and the county coroner.
The incident happened before 8 a.m. in the lot at 931 Senate St., according to the release. That is the lot shared by Five Guys, Hickory Tavern and Monterrey Mexican among other restaurants and is located in between Park and Lincoln streets.
“Next of kin has not yet been located for Mr. Harkless. The coroner is hoping that by releasing his name, the public will be able to help us locate family members,” Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a news release. “If anyone has any information regarding Timothy Harkless Jr. or his next of kin, please contact the Richland County Coroner’s Office at 803-576-1799.”
When officers and other first responders arrived at the scene, Harkless had died, police said.

Police said no charges are expected to be filed.
The death remains under investigation by police and the coroner’s office.
