Key town executive joins Hilton Head chamber of commerce. What she’ll do
The newest top communications official for the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce is a familiar face.
Heather Woolwine, former Communications and Marketing Director for the Town of Hilton Head Island, is now the Vice Presidents of Communications for the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, a position was previously held by Charlie Clark.
Woolwine’s employment with the town ended on April 30, according to an automatic reply from Woolwine’s former Hilton Head email. The chamber shared the news of Woolwine’s hiring in a Facebook post Friday.
Kelly Spinella has been selected to serve as the town’s Interim Director of Communications and Marketing in Woolwine’s absence. Communications Manager Carolyn Grant continues to serve in her role.
Woolwine did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
Hilton Head, chamber deal on expenses
The move comes months after the Town of Hilton Head Island and the chamber negotiated a deal that requires the chamber to turn over 100% of receipts and invoices for expenses paid through town money.
The chamber is a key regional association for local businesses in the Hilton Head area. Members pay fees to access networking opportunities, and seminars, and other benefits.
The chamber is also the primary organization responsible for marketing Hilton Head Island as a prime tourist destination on behalf of the town. It receives 30% of all funds collected through a state taxes on hotels that passes through the town; its allocation amounts of $3.71 million this year.
