John Legend got a taste of his own medicine on “The Voice” after a Washington native passed over him as coach.

Coaches Blake Shelton and Legend battled it out in hopes that 22-year-old Jaeden Luke would choose to be on their team after his initial audition to the song “Make It with You” from Bread.

The coaches cracked some jokes about how Legend didn’t pick Luke in the past to open for one of his shows.

“I was going to open for you man but you didn’t choose me!” Luke said after Legend praised him.

Luke has opened for artists like Chris Isaak and Little Feat, according to his website. He’s often compared to the musical stylings of Ed Sheeran and John Mayer.

Shelton was the first to turn his chair as the crowd grew louder, loving Luke’s performance. Camila Cabello jokingly hit her buzzer, but because she and Gwen Stefani had already completed their teams, they were unable to turn around.

“I couldn’t press my button, my team is full and I’m devastated because I love that song so much and I don’t understand why do you even know that song?” said Stefani after the Bothell, Washington, resident finished his blind audition.

Luke gave credit to his mother for being raised around music from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

“I would be honored for you to be the last person on my team, man,” Shelton told Luke.

Ultimately, Luke picked Shelton after shouting out his mom and sister who were watching from the side stage.

After Luke’s blind audition, three out of the four coaches have completed their teams for season 22, leaving Legend with one spot left.

Bothell is about 20 miles northeast of Seattle.
