4 victims identified in string of fatal traffic collisions in Beaufort County

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office has identified four victims from three separate fatal traffic collisions over the holiday weekend.

Daryle Fitzgerald, 56, of Bluffton, was identified as the man who died after being ejected from his Ford Mustang and struck by an SUV on Bluffton Parkway early Saturday afternoon. He was thrown from the vehicle after leaving the roadway and hitting a tree, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A head-on crash on Lady’s Island late Sunday night claimed the lives of Beaufort resident Amya Fields, 17, and St. Helena Island man Louis Carbonneau, 54, the coroner’s office said.

Sunday’s two-vehicle crash between a Subaru and Honda, which sent another 17-year-old to the hospital in critical condition, happened on U.S. 21 (Sea Island Parkway) near its intersection with Eustis Landing Road. The impact caused the Subaru to catch fire, according to the Lady’s Island - St. Helena Fire District.

And following a third fatal collision Monday evening in the Lobeco area, coroner’s personnel identified Bluffton man Scott McKeever, 48, as the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a semi-truck on U.S. 17 (Charleston Highway). It was the third deadly crash on Beaufort County roadways over the three-day holiday weekend.
