Tracking Beaufort County’s traffic deaths: Interactive map of fatal 2025 crashes
Fourteen people have died on Beaufort County roadways so far in 2025, with all but one fatal collision happening on major highways like U.S. 278, U.S. 21 and S.C. 170.
The deaths as of Aug. 7 included three pedestrians, two motorcyclists and two bicyclists. One of those pedestrians and one bicyclist were killed in suspected hit-and-runs, neither of which had yet resulted in an arrest.
So far this year, roadway deaths have occurred at a slower rate than in 2024. By August of last year, officials had reported 17 traffic fatalities.
2024 ended with 26 total highway fatalities spread across the streets of Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, keeping pace with previous years’ numbers.
National data puts South Carolina in the top 10 states with the most roadway deaths relative to population. The Beaufort area sees far less fatalities relative to larger population centers like Charleston, Greenville and Spartanburg counties.
