Troopers look for 2 cars after pedestrian killed in Beaufort Co. hit-and-run
State troopers in Beaufort County continued to search for two cars that left the scene after fatally striking a pedestrian near the Broad River Bridge late last month.
The deadly collision happened around 11:50 p.m. April 27 on the portion of S.C. 170 (Okatie Highway) that crosses Lemon Island, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Ridgeland resident Dontay Frost, 39, died at the scene, according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office. Troopers said he was “lying in the roadway” when he was struck by the two vehicles.
Investigators identified one of the suspect vehicles as a 2016-2018 Honda Civic of an unknown color, last seen traveling south on S.C. 170 toward Bluffton.
The second vehicle, thought to be an SUV, may have undercarriage damage, according to the poster SCHP shared asking for the public’s help.
Frost’s funeral was held Saturday morning at the Mount Caramel Baptist Center in Ridgeland, according to his obituary.
