Update: Coroner names pedestrian fatally struck by pickup truck on Lady’s Island
A 33-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck Monday night on Lady’s Island, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Beaufort man Robert Gadson was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision around 8:55 p.m. on U.S. 21 (Lady’s Island Drive), according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal collision happened as a 2019 Ford F-350 traveled south on U.S. 21 near the highway’s intersection with Club Road and in the area of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
The driver of the Ford pickup stayed on scene and no criminal charges are pending, according to SCHP Master Trooper Hannah Davidson.
It was the second fatal traffic incident in Beaufort County within just over four hours. Around 12:55 a.m. the next morning, state troopers reported a deadly collision between a car and tree on north-end Hilton Head Island.
