Update: Hilton Head man killed in early morning crash with tree, coroner says

A Hilton Head Island man died after his car crashed into a tree on north-end Hilton Head Island early Tuesday morning, marking the second fatal collision in Beaufort County in a matter of hours.

Henry Boynton, 49, was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident around 12:55 a.m., according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office. It happened on Main Street near the intersection with Whooping Crane Way.

Traveling east on Main Street, Boynton’s 2004 Subaru Legacy struck a curb, left the roadway and collided with a tree, according to Master Trooper Hannah Davdison of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Boynton, who was the only person inside the sedan, succumbed to his injuries on scene, Davidson said.

Just over four hours earlier, the SCHP responded to a fatal collision between a pedestrian and pickup truck on Lady’s Island.

This report will be updated.
