A 24-year-old Hilton Head Island man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection with the July 5 shots fired at Reilley’s Plaza.

Davion Sanford faces charges of unlawful carry of a pistol, possession of a firearm where alcohol is sold and the discharge of a firearm within town limits, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office news release. He will be booked in Beaufort County Detention Center after being interviewed by investigators.

Sanford is accused of “discharging a handgun in the area of Reilley’s Plaza” around 11:45 p.m., according to the release. He is also a person of interest in the shots fired incident at Coligny Plaza that occurred about 45 minutes later.

The Sheriff’s Office is looking into a possible connection between Sanford and Christopher Mullen, 30, of Bluffton, who was arrested in connection with another shots fired incident the same night at Street Meet restaurant. Darren Mahaffey, 27, of Hilton Head was also arrested in connection with the Street Meet incident.

Anyone with information on any of these situations can contact Cpl. Ryan Chin at 843-255-3209 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-888-CrimeSC.
