Update: Beaufort home heavily damaged by fire, deemed suspicious

No one was injured, but this house, photographed Thursday on Ratel Court in the Mink Point area of Beaufort, was left a burnt out shell after a suspicious fire late Wednesday night. Burton and Beaufort firefighters battled the fire into the early morning. Firefighters were dispatched to the house shortly before 11 p.m. and arrived to find heavy volumes of fire coming from the home. The female homeowner was on the front lawn with her dog when firefighters arrived. Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes but remained on scene until early Thursday morning. The Beaufort County Fire Scene Investigation Team was called in to investigate and determined the cause to be suspicious. The investigation has been handed over to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Beaufort County EMS also responded.

A Beaufort home was heavily damaged in a late Wednesday night house fire that firefighters fought for several hours.

The Ratel Court home was reported ablaze just before 11 p.m., according to a Burton Fire District news release.

When they arrived, firefighters found “heavy volumes of fire” coming from the home, the release said.

They were able to get the flames under control in 30 minutes but remained at the scene until the early morning hours extinguishing hot spots.

No cause for the fire has been released and no injuries were reported.

The investigation is being handled by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, and the fire has been deemed suspicious.
