Celeb watch: Jimmy Buffett concert in the Lowcountry the same week as Heritage

Do Parrotheads wear plaid? Jimmy Buffett is in concert in the Lowcountry the same week as the RBC Heritage golf tournament.

Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band are making a stop the North Charleston Coliseum on Thursday, April 16, as part of the “Slack Tide Tour 2020.” The concert starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, and purchasers are limited to eight tickets. Ticket price information was not immediately available.

“Nobody throws a party like Jimmy Buffett, and his concert promises to be the biggest party of 2020,” the coliseum’s general manager Frank Lapsley said in a news release announcing the show.

Some might say there’s a bigger party happening on Hilton Head the same week. The RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing golf tournament runs April 13-19 at Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines.

The annual PGA Tour event drew 135,000 people to Hilton Head Island in 2019.

Could Buffett be one of those in attendance this year? That remains to be seen. His representatives were not available to comment because of the holiday.

Golfers vying for the Heritage red tartan jacket and a $7.1 million purse tee off for the first round of the tournament on the morning of April 16, the same day as Buffett’s North Charleston concert.

The following stop on Buffett’s tour is in Columbia a full week later on Thursday, April 23. Tickets for that show also go on sale Jan. 10.

Buffett, who just celebrated his 73rd birthday on Christmas day, is known for songs such as “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Come Monday” and “Margaritaville” among others.

He regularly posts about golf on social media. In October, he shared a photo on Instagram with the following caption: “What’s better than a birdie? A hole in one - with a witness!”

The Latitude Margaritaville Hilton Head community, a joint venture between Buffett’s Margaritaville Holdings and developer Minto Communities along U.S. 278 in Hardeeville, opened in early 2018. The community is designed for around 3,000 homes, The Island Packet previously reported.
