Beaufort’s Fall ArtWalk, which returns Friday after being canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, will showcase the work of 400 artists at 13 galleries and shops downtown and elsewhere in the city.

Casual and serious collectors are welcome to stroll through the city, checking out a spectrum of media that include oil, acrylic, watercolor, multimedia, fiber, glass, jewelry and pottery.

“They can see the art and the talent that exists here in the Lowcountry,” ArtWalk director Brenda Litchfield said. “We have some incredible artists.”

The exceptional talent has made Beaufort one of the top art towns in the country, Litchfield said.

The Lowcountry Art Celebration, as the event is also called, is the same weekend as the Historic Beaufort Foundation’s Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens. Together, the two events showcase the art and architecture that make Beaufort a distinctive Southern city, Litchfield said.

Each participating gallery or shop will be displaying an Art Walk flag so they will be easy to find.

Besides the 13 galleries and shops downtown, art also will be on display at Charles Street Gallery (914 Charles St.), Basecamp Gallery (500 Carteret St.) and USCB Center for the Arts (801 Carteret St.).

New this year are artist demonstrations and events for children at four locations.

Georgia Phillips will share her knowledge about how to select the perfect frame and mat for original artwork at 5 p.m. at The Charles Street Gallery.

Pumpkin decorating for children is at 6 p.m. at Coastal Art Supply with owner Lindsey Eavenson.

At 7 p.m., Thibault Gallery will present a glass demonstration by artist Greg Rawls, who will pull glass through a kiln to form glass rods to create glass bowls and plates.

James Powley will conduct a watercolor painting demonstration at 8 p.m. at the Beaufort Art Association.

Most of the galleries will be serving wine and hors d’oeuvres, Litchfield said.
