Lucas: Coast Guard Auxiliary to attend ‘Finest Hours’ opening, answer questions

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary out of Hilton Head will be on hand to celebrate the opening of the Walt Disney film "The Finest Hours" which opens this weekend.

The movie is based on the heroic true story of coxswain Bernard C. Weber and his crew who braved 60-foot seas and hurricane force winds to rescue 32 crewmen from the Pendleton, a tanker which had broken in two.

Members of the Hilton Head Flotilla will be at the Southeast Northridge Cinema 10 Jan. 29 through Jan. 31 and will answer questions and discuss the services provided by the Coast Guard. An information table also will be on display in the theater's lobby.

Those interested in learning more about the auxiliary, safe boating courses, boating safety, search and rescue or similar topics are invited to attend.

The cinema is at 435 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island.
