No prom date for golfer Andrew Orischak and TV’s Holly Sonders

It was one of the intriguing sidebars as the U.S. Junior Amateur unfolded last summer at Colleton River Plantation: Favorite son Andrew Orischak playing the final with more than a title on the line – a prom date with Fox Sports headturner Holly Sonders.

Even after Orischak lost to Philip Barbaree, Sonders tweeted that she’s still be willing to accompany him to Hilton Head Island High’s prom.

Alas, it was not to be.

The appointed weekend has come, with the two teeing it up on opposite sides of the country – Orischak playing the prestigious Sage Valley Invitational starting Thursday outside Aiken and Sonders taking part in the Derek Jeter Celebrity Invitational in Las Vegas.

“I’m not sure it was ever going to happen,” Orischak said recently. “I don’t think it was ever really a serious thing.”

Orischak said several people have inquired about the date in the weeks leading up to the prom, but that he hasn’t spoken with Sonders since the summer.

As it turns out, Saturday presents a real balancing act for Orischak with the Sage Valley event finishing up hours before the prom starts.

“I’ll be booking it back from Sage Valley to get to prom,” he said.
