Wild 5-golfer playoff on Hilton Head ends with dramatic putt by son of famous pro

John Daly II, son of PGA legend John Daly, earned his first victory of the International Junior Golf Tour season in dramatic style Sunday afternoon at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.

Daly II, a freshman at Bishops Gate Golf Academy, forced a 5-way playoff in the annual IJGA Invitational by shooting a 73, following his opening round of 79, to finish with a score of 152, according to a news release from IJGT.

The younger Daly — known as “Little John” — will be joining his father this week for the PNC Father Son Challenge in Orlando for the annual Pro-Am.

The IJGT news release detailed the rest of the results:

Tying for second-place in the sudden-death playoff was Mike Donner of Hamburg, N.Y. Donner put together a consistent weekend with two rounds of 76 to his 152-finishing score.

Sharing second was Tristan Galant of Cape Town, South Africa. Galant, a student of the International Junior Golf Academy, made his way into the playoff with scores of 77 and 75.

Next in the playoff was Niels Schmidlin, who also is a student of Bishops Gate Golf Academy. The native of Zug, Switzerland had scores of 75 and 77. Rounding out the top finishers was Alex Lamarca of Westwood, N.J. For his 152-total score finish, Lamarca put together scores of 76 and 76 over the weekend.

Sophia Burnett of Bluffton, a student at Bluffton High, won the girls division with rounds of 79 and 79 for a total score of 158. Following closely in second-place was Fiona Khaing of Yangon, Myanmar. Khaing, who is also a student of the International Junior Golf Academy, finished her weekends after an opening round of 79 and a Sunday score of 83.

Rounding out the top-three is One Kashima of Tochigi, Japan, with scores of 83 and 84.

The winning player in each division earned a spot in the Sea Pines Junior Heritage Tournament scheduled for Feb. 3 and 4.
