Hilton Head Plantation to raise fees to cover hurricane costs

Hilton Head Plantation property owner’s will be paying an additional $250 in fees next year to cover the costs of Hurricane Matthew.

About $1.1 million has been budgeted for 2017 to cover the costs of damage from the storm, a release from The Hilton Head Plantation Property Owner’s Association said Monday.

“HHPPOA has incurred significant costs for the initial clearing of our roads, common property, repairs to the pool, tennis courts, Bluff, leisure paths, fences, buildings, signs, etc.,” the release states.

It says the association’s “Weather Casualty Fund” will be depleted by the costs.

Higher property assessments this year may not even cover the final costs, the release states.

“The assessment may need to remain elevated in subsequent years depending on the final costs associated with recovery from Hurricane Matthew,” the release states.

The increase means owners will pay $1,376 a year for improved lots paid by credit card and $1,349 if paid by cash.

Those with unimproved lots will have to pay $809 if paid by cash or check.
