Hilton Head beach renourishment moving forward after Matthew
Hilton Head Island’s $20.7 million beach renourishment project is back to where it started before Hurricane Matthew — sort of.
Weeks Marine, Inc., the town’s contractor, has completed work redoing a section of North and South Forest Beach, a town press release said.
A section of beach from the Coligny Beach area to Sonesta Resort was completed by the contractor before the hurricane. But it needed to be redone after 30 percent of the sand pumped by the contractor was washed away with the storm, town officials previously said.
The renourishment project will continue down the beach to Captain’s Walk before taking a break to reposition equipment for work near Singleton Beach.
