Can I get temporary food stamps? What about food pantries?
The U.S. Department of Agriculture issues emergency food stamps in areas affected by disaster when the state requests assistance.
However, as of Wednesday, South Carolina has not made a request for disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits, according to USDA representatives.
D-SNAP benefits are provided through an EBT card that can be used at authorized food retailers to buy food.

Our Lady’s Pantry in Beaufort, 30 Carolyn Drive in Beaufort, open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All are welcome
Lowcountry Food Bank, 1 Guess Dr. in Yemassee, open Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Help of Beaufort, 1910 Baggett St. in Beaufort, will be open Wednesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Sandalwood Community Food Pantry, 114 Beach City Road on Hilton Head, open Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are welcome.
Deep Well, 80 Capital Drive on Hilton Head, open Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Bluffton Self Help, at 39 Sheridan Park Circle, Suite 10, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for food and clothing distribution at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
A limited supply of nonperishable food items, as well as a limited supply of clothing, will be available for those in need. Current BSH clients will need their swipe card to access services. Non-clients will need to bring a photo ID in order to receive food or clothing this week.
Hours of operation for the remainder of the week: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Donations of food are welcomed and will be accepted during any hours of operation. For additional information, call 843-757-8000.
The American Red Cross will have feeding sites at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. for people who have been impacted by the hurricane. The locations are:
▪ St Helena Elementary School — 1025 Sea Island Parkway, St. Helena Island
▪ Hilton Head Island High School — 70 Wilborn Road, Hilton Head Island
▪ Beaufort Elementary School — 1800 Prince St., Beaufort
▪ Dollar General parking lot — 3424 South O’Katie Hwy, Hardeeville
