Is the Hilton Head airport open and can I fly there on private aircraft?

The Hilton Head Island Airport will be open for general and commercial aviation at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Until then, the airport was open only for emergency aircraft, according to Hilton Head Airport director Jon Rembold.

Rembold said the airport is in good shape, but officials didn’t want to hamper emergency operations with general aviation before the general re-entry.

He said pilots can check the NOTAM system for updates on when the airport would be open for private planes.
