What is the status of the Harbor Island bridge for anyone needing to return to Harbor or Fripp islands?

The Harbor Island bridge is still standing, but vehicles can’t travel on it until South Carolina Department of Transportation road crews inspect it, Lady’s Island-St. Helena Island Fire District spokesman Scott Harris said.

The Hunting Island side of the bridge is “completely washed out at the foot of the bridge,” Harris said.

There may be a temporary fix if the bridge is not sound, but Harris estimates it will take “at least a couple of days” until vehicles can potentially pass over the bridge.
