Savannah Airport closes for Hurricane Matthew

The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport will be closed until 8 a.m. Sunday, the airport announced in a release Thursday night.

All commercial flights were canceled from late Thursday night to noon Sunday in anticipation of Hurricane Matthew’s arrival and the evacuation of the Lowcountry and Savannah areas.

There will be no public access to the terminal building during the closure, nor will any stranded passengers be permitted to shelter within the terminal building, the release stated.

Passengers should check Live Flight Information or contact the airlines directly for the most current flight information, and they can check the airport’s social media pages for updates on operations.
