What happens to flights into and out of Savannah and Hilton Head during evacuation?
The No. 1 piece of advice from both Lori Lynah, director of marketing at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, and Jon Rembold, Beaufort County airports director, is this: Check with your airline carrier.
The Savannah airport and Beaufort County’s airports, including the Hilton Head Island Airport, are both open today. As of 8:30 a.m., flights appear to be arriving and departing as scheduled at Savannah. Afternoon flights appear to be canceled at Hilton Head.
Rembold said the county’s airports will stay open until it is no longer safe to do so. As soon as the storm passes, they will be available for possible Medevac flights.
Private aviators, Rembold said, have been moving their planes inland.
