Thunderstorm tears through Lowcountry, knocks out power for thousands

A fast-moving storm system with high winds that blew through the region on Wednesday evening knocked out power for thousands in Beaufort and Jasper counties.

SCE&G reported about 4,600 outages in Beaufort County as of 7 p.m., the result of 34 incidents related to the storm, such as fallen tree limbs. In Jasper County, the company had more than 200 outages resulting from at least six incidents.

Katrina Goggins, a spokesperson for the company, said the outages were all related to the storm. All available crews were set to restoring power, she said.

Palmetto Electric had no reported outages in Beaufort County, but had 44 outages reported in Jasper County, according to a dispatch employee for the company.
