A vehicle was reported to be on fire just before 10 a.m. Monday on U.S. 278 in Hardeeville.

Eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for about 15 minutes while firefighters put out the flames, according to Capt. David Metz of the Hardeeville Fire Department.

The only vehicle involved was a Chevy Silverado pickup, he said.

The driver was able to pull over on the right-hand side of the road and get out of the vehicle safely, Metz said.

The fire was about 1/4 mile away from the John Smith Road turnoff, close to I-95, according to a news release from the City of Hardeeville.
