A deer with “some type of bucket” on its head was spotted in Hilton Head Plantation this morning, according to an email from the community.

General Manager Peter Kristian said a resident reported the deer to security this morning. Security has been monitoring the situation since then, Kristian said about 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Kristian said he contacted the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, which advised that the deer be left alone to see if it can free itself from the bucket.

Other groups have been contacted regarding the deer, Kristian said.

“A suitable solution, absent of destroying the animal, has not as yet been determined,” Kristian said in the email.

The email asked residents to stay clear of the deer. Kristian declined to disclose the deer’s location. Anyone who attempts to help it free its head may be injured, Kristian said.

Kristian said the deer was last spotted around 11:30 a.m.
