Beaufort County schools, district office to remain closed until Monday

The Beaufort County School District announced Tuesday evening that all schools and the district office would remain closed until Monday, Oct. 17 in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.

The district has said that electrical service to schools is the biggest impediment to reopening, but an announcement to parents also listed

▪ an expected lack of available staffing,

▪ downed trees,

▪ standing water in some schools and

▪ the need to restore food service facilities

as problems preventing an earlier opening.
