Police: Bluffton man slain, found in ditch

The body of a Bluffton man was found Tuesday in a ditch in Jasper County in what deputies have ruled a homicide.

Investigators identified the victim as Javon Winston, 23, after the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office got a call that a man was lying in a ditch in the 1800 block of Cooks Landing Road in Hardeeville around 1:50 p.m. that day, according to a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The victim was found with a gunshot wound.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was called to assist at the scene, and investigators determined the victim had been at the location for approximately two days.
