5 fire companies battle blaze at Belfair in Bluffton
The Bluffton Township Fire District and Beaufort County EMS were dispatched to a house fire around midnight on Saturday at 75 Lexington Drive in Belfair Plantation.
Captain Randy Hunter of the fire district said crews arrived on the scene and saw a heavy fire coming from the attached garage.
Due to the size of the blaze, it took five companies on the scene about an hour to bring the flames under control, according to Hunter.
“We were able to get a good knock on the fire eventually,” he said. “We actually cleared out from the scene at about 5 o’clock.”
Hunter said two people who live in the residence were home at the time. No injuries were reported.
The home sustained extensive water and smoke damage. It is now unlivable, so the homeowners are displaced.
“(Smoke) got up into the attic area, so there’s damage throughout the residence,” he said.
The fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshall’s office.
Hunter said investigators need to be sure the scene is safe and the structure stable enough to examine. The investigation could take a couple of days to a week to be completed.
