Man crashes into Savannah Outback Steakhouse. 7 injured, some severely

A driver lost consciousness and crashed into an Outback Steakhouse in Savannnah Friday night, the Savannah Police report.

The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. Friday evening at the Outback Steakhouse at 11196 Abercorn Street, a police press release said.

Seven employees were treated for a range of injuries, some of them life threatening, the report said. Three were flown to the Joseph M. Still Burn Centers in Augusta to be treated for grease burns suffered in the crash.

David Lanier, 42, of Rincon was identified as the driver in the release. He was driving a Chevrolet Express Van.

The collision resulted in a gas leak and part of the restaurant’s ceiling collapsed, the release said, prompting the evacuation of the building.

Savannah Police are still investigating the incident through their Traffic Investigation Unit.
