17-year-old boy shot, killed in Bluffton

A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon just outside Bluffton.

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call of a gunshot victim near the basketball courts in University Park around 4:45 p.m., according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

They found the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, shot in the chest. He was taken to Coastal Carolina Medical Center and pronounced dead a short time later, the release said.

Investigators were still at the scene as of 6:30 p.m. No suspects have been arrested.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call emergency dispatch at 9-1-1.
