Bike rider dies after being hit by car on Hilton Head
A Massachusetts man died Tuesday as a result of a crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle on U.S. 278 near Shelter Cove Lane on Hilton Head Island.
John Martin, 67, died after he was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah after the crash was reported around 2:30 p.m., according to Beaufort County Coroner’s Deputy David Ott and the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The crash involved a 2003 Volvo traveling westbound that struck Martin, who was riding a bicycle westbound.
Martin died around 5 p.m. due to injuries sustained during the crash, Ott said.
The driver involved has not been identified.
