A Marine Corps recruit who fell from the roof of a building was in stable condition Friday, a Marine Corps spokesman said.

The recruit fell from a one-story building on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on Wednesday — a day after arriving for boot camp — and was hospitalized.

The recruit’s condition was stable Friday afternoon, Parris Island spokesman Capt. Adam Flores said. He said he could provide no new details about the circumstances of the fall.

“Everything else is still under investigation,” he said.

The recruit arrived on base Tuesday and was assigned to Support Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment. During early processing, recruits obtain gear, complete paperwork and receive haircuts.

The incident is the third fall reported at the depot in the past 16 months.

Kristian Gashaj, an 18-year-old recruit from Michigan, was critically injured after a two-story fall in October 2016. A 20-year-old recruit from Michigan, Raheel Siddiqui, died in March 2016 after a 40-foot fall.

Investigations found both men to have intentionally jumped. Their families have questioned the findings.
