This Beaufort County brush fire along US 21 wasn’t near any hydrants

A Burton brush fire along Trask Parkway took two fire districts an hour and a half to extinguish Wednesday morning, according to a Burton Fire District news release.

The fire started small but spread to about a half-acre near Garrett Smalls Road around 11:30 a.m., according to the release. Since there are no hydrants in that area, Burton firefighters called on Sheldon Fire District to send a water tanker.

No buildings were damaged, but some U.S. 21 traffic was slower in that area, according to the release. This is the 10^th brush fire in the Burton area so far this year.
