‘Shocking words’ spray painted on this Lady’s Island church
Profanity was found spray-painted on a Lady’s Island church sign Wednesday morning.
“F--- Jesus,” was found on the Lady’s Island Baptist Church sign in gold paint.
The church on Brickyard Point Road South is celebrating its 152nd anniversary this week, and Pastor Sam Spain said the message could still be there by the time church members arrive for a celebration Wednesday night.
The sign was replaced recently after a car crashed into it, Spain said. He spent some time Wednesday trying to scrape off the paint only to come to the conclusion that, once again, the church would have to purchase a new sign.
Despite the vandalism, Spain said he forgives those responsible for the “shocking words” and hopes they will come forward to talk about what happened. They will receive nothing but love in return, he said.
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Bob Bromage said the vandalism occurred sometime overnight Tuesday and was reported Wednesday morning. An investigation is underway.
