2 juveniles accused of assaulting Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office investigators
Two minors were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after they allegedly assaulted two Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office investigators at a hotel in Beaufort.
The two male juveniles, one 14 and the other 15-years-old, had been sought out by the investigators for questioning related to an ongoing investigation, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
Capt. Bob Bromage declined to comment on what the investigation is about on Thursday morning.
The investigators encountered the juveniles on the second floor of the Econo Lodge on Boundary Street, the release said.
When they were approached, the juveniles allegedly began kicking, punching and attempting to wrestle the investigators, the release said.
The pair also allegedly attempted to push the investigators off a balcony during the scuffle before they ran from the hotel, the release said.
A third investigator spotted the minors running toward K-Mart on Boundary Street and also was assaulted when he approached them, the release said.
He was then able to catch up with the juveniles and struggled with them until additional backup arrived, and the two minors were placed in handcuffs, the release said.
Both of the boys were charged with three counts of assault and battery on a police officer and two counts of resisting arrest, the release said.
They were taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia where they will be held until they appear in Beaufort County Family Court.
The investigators involved in the alleged assaults were evaluated for possible minor injuries.
