A Beaufort technology and job growth initiative will be ready for business in January.

The Beaufort Digital Corridor will be completed at the beginning of January, a corridor news release said. The work involved renovating a former bank space at 500 Carteret St. into modern office space.

The Digital Corridor is patterned after a successful Charleston program and hopes to draw small technology-related business and startups.

A grand opening is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Jan 12.

The city of Beaufort bought the building in 2015 to add parking spaces on the recommendation of a parking panel. The partnership with Charleston Digital Corridor came together in June.

Karen Warner was named Beaufort’s program manager in October.
