2 more join the race for Beaufort County school board
Two more people have filed to run in November’s Beaufort County school board election.
Patricia Felton-Montgomery of Sun City Hilton Head filed for candidacy in the race for the District 6 seat against incumbent Paul Roth and another challenger, Stephen Bacon.
Christina Gwozdz of Bluffton filed for candidacy in the race for the District 9 seat against three other challengers, Christopher Epps, Bill Fletcher and Bridgette Frazier. Gwozdz is a local doctor — her practice, Palmetto Ear, Nose and Throat, is located on Main Street on Hilton Head Island — and a former Beaufort County School District parent.
Laura Bush has held the seat for 13 years.
As of Friday, only one school board member was running for re-election unopposed: JoAnn Orischak of District 11 on southern Hilton Head Island.
Two people are running for the District 1 seat in Gray’s Hill and Lobeco: incumbent Earl Campbell and challenger Caleb Brown.
The deadline to file for this year’s school board election is Aug. 15.
