About an hour earlier, a North Charleston police officer had been injured and his K-9 partner killed in an unrelated vehicle accident.

The law enforcement vehicle was traveling north with its lights and sirens on when it collided with a GMC Yukon that was turning from the median lane in the area of Rivers Avenue and Gumwood Boulevard in North Charleston, according to Live 5 News.

The police dog, named Mojo, did not survive, WCBD reported.
